Tanumalala Prison Counselling programme

Ministry of Police, Prisons and Corrections, Samoa
Malua Theological College

Following some sessions in 2021 working alongside clients incarcerated at Tanumalala  Samoa’s national prison, the request was put forward to Soul Talk Samoa for a counselling programme for inmates. The assistance came from Third-Year students and wives of MTC Malua Theological College to meet this need. After months of planning and training, Soul Talk Samoa facilitated the Tanumalala prison counselling programme, with around 40 Third-Year MTC students and wives in July 2021.

This inaugural 4-week counselling programme for Samoa’s national prison involved one-on-one counselling with around 40 inmates, both men and women, embedded in a schedule that involved praise and worship, fellowship, and plenty of listening on our part.

Given the COVID-19 lockdown status of Samoa for the most part of 2022, a forthcoming counselling programme for this current year is awaiting the opportunity to implement.
